I spent Labor Day Weekend in Texas this year. Friday morning I stopped at Starbucks and used my free drink coupon to “buy” a venti quad shot white mocha, hopped back in my car, and drove eight hours. My main motivation for my Texas excursion was Anime Fest. Back in December, Dara and I reserved our convention badges for A-Fest, and I was super stoked to be able to make the drive down.
I’m a con-goer. I love attending anime and comic book conventions because conventions are one of the only places where I’m not “the weird one.” Trust me, you’ll find someone weirder than you at con. Well, except or that one fellow who definitely takes weirdest attendee. You’re not him though, so you’re good.
I saw some exceptional cosplays this year. I bought more pins and patches, an iron man winter hat, a Pikachu shirt, two wolf’s rain book mark commissions, a kingdom heart decal, a few stickers, and a little Pikachu figurine. Overall, a decent convention haul. We ordered pizza, sandwiches, and cookies. We ate Chinese food late at night and watched nerdy movies and shows. During rare glimpses of normalcy I was able to get homework done. I loved people watching at A-Fest.
Every convention is unique. I love hanging out with my nerdy Texas friends. I even learned about a new Anime show called Fairy Tail which I’ve started watching through Funimation. We’ll see how the show unfolds!
The drive back home was grueling. I was absolutely exhausted from A-Fest, so driving wasn’t my best friend. Starbucks came to my rescue, as well as phone call check ups from my dad. I made it home safely. That’s what counts right?
Great weekend with great friends and amazing family, what more could you ask for?
