The Wolf of Wall Street is a black comedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill which tells the story of Jordan Belfort’s rise to a wealthy stockbroker involving corruption and crime and several encounters with the FBI.
Review:
Wolf of Wall Street is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen, and I wish I could “unsee” it. I am absolutely baffled by its Oscar nominations. Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill have had much better performances. Wolf of Wall Street was a black comedy which failed to make its point—or really any point whatsoever. Three hours of endless and repetitious debauchery and vulgarity. Even DiCaprio couldn’t pull off this piece of depraved writing. The film leads its protagonist in circles of explicit sex, drugs, and profanity, leaving the audience numbed to the point of disgust. The wolf turns out to be nothing but a dog needing to be put down.
Don’t see this film. Wolf of Wall Street has absolutely no redemptive qualities. I don’t understand why Jonah Hill was nominated over Bennedict Cumberbatch, why Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated over Tom Hanks, and why Wolf of Wall Street was nominated over The Place Beyond the Pines. I don’t get it. At all.
Wolf of Wall Street reminded me of the art movement dadaism, specifically an art technique known as assemblage where artists would take everyday objects to create either a meaningful or meaningless piece of work. Wolf of Wall Street is a collection of debauchery used to create a meaningless piece of work.
Overall, I give the film 1/10 stars. Ultimately forgettable—albeit mentally scarring but also forgettable. I left the movie feeling disgusted and wanting to bleach my brain. Never again.
